After the announcement of the release of the Jyothika starrer Ponmagal Vandhaal directly on Amazon prime, skipping a theatrical release, there was a strong opposition from Tamil Nadu theatre owners association warning that no movies of Suriya will be screened in theatres, going forward.
Following this, a joint statement has been released by 30 producers about the OTT release of small and medium budgeted movies. In the statement, the producers have welcomed the OTT release of small/ medium budgeted movies and have said that this move will not just help the movie's producer recover the investments but also will help decrease the number of small movies which are facing release delay waiting to get theatres.
The producers statement also states that the producer who invests money on a movie holds all the rights over the business of the movie including the distribution or OTT release decisions. The statement requests the distributors, theatre owners and producers to co-operate and make decisions together and has demanded that no single association must make decisions affecting any producer.
