Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Mersal’ has become the talk of the nation with its hard hitting references to the state’s Goods and Services Tax. With senior leaders of BJP condemning and threatening the makers of the film to lift the scene off the film, ‘Mersal’ has reecieved wide support from fans, film fraternity and also other political parties.
The Tamil Film Producers Council has also shown their strong support for ‘Mersal’ in a statement released a while back. Citing that a film is just an artist’s imagination, it said that a film is released only after passing through the censors confirming that it is fit to be viewed.
The statement also said it was democratically wrong to chop scenes from a film for which numerous technicians and money was invested before passing through the censors.
The producers council also stated that it is inevitable that every person will have a different opinion but it is healthy to go into discussion instead of asking filmmakers to actually remove the scenes.
On a final note, the council also put forward its hope that the film must not be taken again to the censors which will set a bad example in a democracy.
