Producers, actors smoke peace pipe

Following the State government's order to reduce the admission rates in theatres, a section of producers and distributors demanded that the artistes cut down the size of their remuneration fearing huge losses. With the latter refusing to accept their demand, a tension prevailed in Tamil film industry. However peace finally prevailed on Sunday following an emergency meeting between the producers, distributors and exhibitors.

Recently the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) had called for a meeting of producers, artistes and technicians of Aalwar and Pokiri, slated for release on Pongal day, since the distributors demanded at least a 30 percent reduction in the price of these two films. They feared that with the reduction in ticket rates, the prospects of making profits would be difficult.

However at a meeting held in Chennai on Sunday it was decided to release the movies without any restrictions. In case of any problems in future, the distributors can solve it amicably with the concerned producer.

The meeting was presided over Rama Narayanan, president, TFPC, and attended by office-bearers of producers council, theatre owners association and the distributors association.
