Producer Explains 'Bahubali' Title Controversy

The Prabhas, Anushka, Rana starrer SS Raja Mouli's magnum opus 'Bahubali' presented by K Raghavendra Rao, produced by Sobhu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni on Arka Media creations has been a sensation ever since it was announced and had kept its curiosity quotient high with the subsequent trailer, posters and news released at strategic intervals. The movie is already being hailed by everyone who heard, participated or supported the project as the never seen before film production in Indian cinema. The Chairman of the RFC Ramoji Rao himself has written a personal letter praising the makers' efforts.

However, the movie has hit the line of controversy after the Jain Temple by name Bhatta Kalakar Soudha Swamiji Matt in Karnataka has sent legal notices to the producers claiming that the title is misleading. Originally the title is attributed to the Mahaveer Jain of their religion who stood out for peace and sacrifice. However, the Swamiji alleged that the film’s trailers are quite violent and war mongering. If the movie is about the Gomatheswara, the movie will have to be immediately halted from being produced.

Producer Sobhu Yarlagadda comes defending the story of the film saying the film ahs nothing to do with Gomatheswara or the Jain religion. The story is completely fiction written by Vijayendra Prasad and will remain so. ‘Bahu Bali’ refers to the amount of power the protagonist possesses. He also clarified that they haven’t received the legal notice yet. He added that the war sequences are beign filmed and the movie will be released only in 2015.
