An NGO that is into legal rights protection has issued a legal notice to TV9 (Telugu) over “deliberately insulting Hindu religious sentiments” in a recent programme. As per the NGO, the top-ranking channel telecast a show in which COVID-19 was shown as Hindu Goddess, calling her “Coronamba Ammavaru”.
“We have sought an immediate apology to the Hindu society by the media platform,” the NGO says.
The channel was last year in the news for a similar reason when Bajrang Dal criticized it for airing “anti-Hindu” propagation. This happened just before Diwali, when the channel opined that bursting firecrackers is a source of pollution. Soon after the Hindu outfit’s protest, the channel clarified that it doesn’t intend to hurt the sentiments of any community.
