For the occasion of Raksha Bandhan this year, Star Plus has come up with an initiative to promote Girl Child, in association with government's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign. Titled "Girl Rising - Woh Padhegi, Woh Udegi", the video will feature popular actresses namely Kareena Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, Sushmita Sen and Nandita Das. Interestingly, the short film will be produced by Priyanka Chopra along with 'Slumdog Millionaire' famed Freida Pinto.
Strongly believing in the concept of "Woh Padegi, Woh Udegi" (She Will Get Educated, She Will Fly), Priyanka stated, "It's a motto shared by every one of the amazing women who have joined me on this journey for Girl Rising. We've all come together to narrate real life stories that highlight the amazing, positive impact that education can have on young girls. We believe that storytelling is a powerful way to inspire people and also to empower them to take action."
Slated to go on air on on Raksha Bandhan (Aug 29) on Star Plus and other digital platforms in Hindi and English, the film will have megastar Amitabh Bachchan as the narrator. Incidentally the English version of the film, that was released in 2013, was helmed by Academy Award nominee Richard E. Robbins. The film highlighted the stories of eight resilient girls from different countries who fought many odds to achieve their dreams.
