Priyanka Chopra sings for 'Mary Kom'!

National award winning actress & international recording artist Priyanka Chopra who made a splash on the international music scene with her 3 blockbuster singles , "In My City" feat Will I Am, "Exotic" feat Pitbull and her recent love ballad "I Can't Make You Love Me" ,will now go behind the microphone as she lends her voice for a song in Sanjay Leela Bhansali & Viacom 18 Motion Pictures' Mary Kom.

The song in question is a "lori" titled "Charo" that Priyanka croons at a crucial juncture in the film ,that sees her essay the role of the five time world champion and Olympic medalist Mary Kom.

Says a source, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali was extremely keen on havingPriyanka Chopra sing for the film as he felt it would add a new dimension to the moment in the song and shared the idea with her ..Given the warm equation Priyanka shares with Bhansali she agreed to do it.The song features at a crucial juncture in the film which is a very emotional scene and is a melodious lori".

Confirming the news says producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, "I really wanted Priyanka to sing in the film and I'm very happy that she made an exception for me and agreed on lending her voice to a Hindi film for the very first time".

The actress who represents all that is Indian on the global front was the first Indian recording artist to crossover to the international music market in the US with major mainstream appeal.

Despite being in the midst of a hectic schedule , Priyanka made time post shoots to rehearse with her voice coach Samantha and do the riyaz ,concentrating on her notes and range. Says Priyanka Chopra , " I'm very excited to be singing for Mary Kom. It'll be the first time I sing in a Hindi film and Mary Kom was the perfect film to start with.. It's a really poignant moment in the film so I hope I pulled it off..I hope to continue singing along with acting in the future."

Says , Samantha Edwards, Vocal Coach, "Priyanka's work on these songs (and this style and genre) may be a new facet for audiences. But I have always known that PC has so much more to reveal through her voice. This is just the beginning and I can't wait for audiences to experience her versatility as a singer as well. Her voice will excel in several genres of music".
