Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra took part in a live conversation with WHO General-Director Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Dr Maria Van Kerkhove to clear the myths on the novel coronavirus that has been raising panic and concerns across the globe.

Many people have been wondering if COVID-19 is airborne for a long time, and when Priyanka asked the same, Dr Maria clearly stated that the virus is NOT airborne. She did, however, say that the virus can be transmitted through fomites, which means that the virus can remain on surfaces, which could cause a potential infection. "The virus is not airborne. The virus spreads through droplets, which are particles that come out of your mouth or nose when you talk or sneeze. This is why it is important to cough into your elbow. If those particles land on a surface and you touch that surface with your hand, then you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, then that is how the virus is contracted. If you touch an infected surface and wash your hands or use sanitizer, then it will kill the virus particles on your hand. The virus is not spread through food or animals," she stated.

COVID-19 has claimed the lives of more than 21300 people and infected over 472300 people across the world. The virus was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, in China. As the death toll and overall cases began rising rapidly across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health emergency and the outbreak has now been labelled a pandemic.
