Actress Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas recently announced that they have welcomed their first kid in the family via surrogacy. While their fans and friends were elated by this announcement, many of them wondered why the couple went for surrogacy. Several reports suggest that Priyanka and Nick's baby, who is reported to be a girl, was born 12 weeks earlier than expected and she will be kept in hospital until she is healthy enough.

People have been specualating that Priyanka might have fertility issues which caused the couple to opt for surrogacy but that doesn't seem to be the case. A source close to the couple told DailyMail, "Priyanka doesn’t have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby, but she is 39 now so it’s not getting any easier. Their busy work schedules also mean that it’s difficult for them to physically be together to conceive when she is ovulating, so some time ago they went down the surrogacy route.”

Talking about the surrogate, the source said, "This is the woman’s fifth surrogacy. They met her and really liked her. The baby had been due in April but the surrogate ended up giving birth on Sunday, so she was very premature."
