From the moment Slumdog swept the Golden Globes people from the film fraternity in India have been expressing mixed reactions about the film. When many have lauded the film and its makers some have felt otherwise.

After Mahesh Bhatt, another prominent Bollywood film maker has expressed his negative feelings about 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Priyadarshan says that the film is nothing but a new version of the old Bollywood movies which used the concept of childhood lovers and separated brothers reuniting.

The director has also emphasized that people in the West like to see India as a country that is backward, filled with exploitation and poverty. He says "I saw the film with a mixed audience at the Toronto Film Festival. The Westerners loved it and all the Indians hated it".

Priyardarshan went one step further than any other detractor of 'Slumdog Millionaire' by saying "If the Golden Globe and Oscar committees have chosen to honour this trashy film it just shows their ignorance of world cinema".

Very strong words indeed!
