The Kannada film ‘Jambhada Hudugi’ producer, actress and director Priya Hassan has approached the High Court of Karnataka asking on what grounds her film has been denied Rs.10 lakhs subsidy given by the Karnataka State government. Admitting the petition the single judge committed Justice Mohan Shanthana Gowder has asked the Karnataka government Kannada and Culture, information and publicity department and Subsidy committee to explain the reasons for denial on Thursday.

‘Jambhada Hudugi’ the debut direction of Priya Hassan was given U certificate by the censor board and the film focused on the transplantation of womb in its subject. The sacrifice the heroine Priya Hassan makes in the film. It is after some time of release of this film a case of womb transplantation for the first time was found in London where in a mother donated the womb to her daughter. Priya Hassan explaining this case says with such advancement in thoughts tried out she had been denied any award in the State Awards for 2007-2008 and now even the subsidy is denied for the film.

Priya Hassan stated the ‘A’ certificate films like ‘Aa Dinagalu, Avva and Shivani’ got the subsidy. There are some violent films too she points. ‘Jambhada Hudugi’ is a 100 days film and had all good qualities says Priya Hassan.

Veteran director Siddalingaiah was the chairman of the Subsidy Committee for the period 2007-2008.

Out of the 74 films that were in the fray for subsidy only 26 films were declared subsidy while four national award films got automatic entries. Two children films get Rs.25 lakh subsidy from the government and annually the Karnataka government gives Rs.10 lakh subsidy to 30 quality films besides the 100 percent Entertainment Tax exemption to all Kannada films.

Priya Hassan has recently completed the shooting and post production of her second film ‘Bindhaas Hudugi’.
