This is the one that demands different mannerism and sensibilities from Puneeth Rajakumar the power house of Kannada cinema. He is a silent operator as bureaucrat taking on the strong mining politicians who are of course highly relevant in the political system of Karnataka today. Jacob Verghese has carefully scanned all the recent newspaper reports in arriving at the wafer thin story line. Fully coated with politics the film is also a dig at the ruling BJP government.
Mixing the sentiment dosage and adding the romantic songs Jacob Verghese looked at the character of the protagonist in a new angle is new in the career of Puneeth Rajakumar. Two good tunes from Manikanth Khadri and Sathyaraj's commendable work in the camera are added attraction to `Prithvi'.
Prithvi Kumar (Puneeth Rajakumar) hailing from an ordinary family follows the guidelines of his father in giving good administration. In the very big Bellary district that is the `Mining Capital' of Karnataka everything is not in right order. The life of the people is in danger from highly contaminated water. The mining politics is even controlling the party at power. At such a place Prithvi applies breaks for every illegal activity. When the powerful MP and Home Minister come in his way Prithvi is not ready to budge for any corruption. He knows very well what he has to do for the people who are dying and entire is deteriorating. At the interval point Prithvi pours the mineral water and water people drinking in Bellary in two separate glasses and asks the Home Minister which water he would like to drink.
The crooked politicians use the ultimate force to put down Prithvi who resurfaces to give back in the own coin.
The silent killer in his histrionics Puneeth Rajakumar steals the show with his sublime style and sensible handling of the role. As Prithvi's partner Parvathi has not much of challenge in her role. John Kokkin is very powerful in his role.
Manikanth Khadri songs - Nenapidhu...sung by Shruthi Hassan and Karthik, Hagella Nee Nodabeda...sung by Haricharan and Anitha and Ninagendhe Visheshavadha.sung by Kunal Ganjawala and Hansika Iyer are melodious and meaningful. Sathyaraj in his camera work has captured the wonder locations of Bellary, Jordon and other places.
This is a graduation in the role for Puneeth Rajakumar. Worth watching once!
