Priscilla Presley, 78, arrived at the Venice Film Festival for Sofia Coppola’s debut of her biopic about her life with Elvis. She was not part of the panel but shared her emotions about the film and about her relationship with Elvis.
"It is very difficult to sit and watch a film about you and your love," said an emotional Priscilla after praising Sofia’s work and collaboration with the director, while she emphasized that she had shared all that she could with Sofia during their discussions.
Talking about the age difference criticism they recently came under from fans regarding when they started dating, Priscilla recalled that she was 14 while Elvis was 24. They married seven years later. Priscilla explained that she was a "listener" in their relationship, providing comfort to Elvis as he poured his heart out about his fears, hopes, and loss of his mother through tears.
Priscilla explained they were not married or connected by physical intimacy but by their mental and emotional connection. Despite her being young, she felt wiser from her life experiences, which made them connected.
Their relationship developed so much until Priscilla made the decision to leave in 1972. She said that the reason behind it was not love but the challenging lifestyle attached to Elvis. Many women could relate to and empathize with her decision.
Sofia Coppola’s film "Priscilla" explored their complicated relationship, which was promoted at the festival with Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi in the lead roles.
