Prince William has been honored with a special green Blue Peter badge, recognizing his efforts in connection with The Earthshot Prize. Launched by the Prince in 2020, The Earthshot Prize aims to commend and bolster individuals and organizations striving to create solutions and technologies that can safeguard our planet. The winning project receives a substantial £1 million to further its development.
This distinctive badge was presented to the Prince as part of the 65th-anniversary celebrations of Blue Peter. His Royal Highness was awarded the badge during a special episode set to air on Friday, October 13. Additionally, during the show, Prince William assisted Blue Peter presenter Joel in presenting the 'big badge wall,' which showcases drawings and letters sent in by viewers on the themes of nature and environmental preservation.
The green Blue Peter badge was introduced in November 1988 and serves to acknowledge children who demonstrate their concern for our planet. It signifies their commitment to causes such as climate change, recycling, protecting animals, and preserving their habitats.
Distinguished recipients of the green badge include the likes of Sir David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg. It's worth noting that this isn't the first Blue Peter badge for Prince William, as both he and Princess Diana were awarded the gold Blue Peter badge in 2017.
Currently, over 265,000 children aged 5 to 15 own at least one Blue Peter badge, and in the past month alone, an impressive 6,000 children have applied for the new Book Badge, which was launched in September 2023.
