According to a new biography, Prince William forbade Meghan Markle from donning Princess Diana's jewelry for her wedding. Royal author Rob Jobson claims the Prince of Wales worried about Prince Harry's initial choice to wed Meghan.
Although Kate had been let to, William, 42, who proposed to Kate Middleton with the engagement ring from her late mother reportedly begged the Queen to make sure Meghan, 42, would not wear Diana's jewelry. This choice underlined the brothers' increasing conflict even before Meghan formally joined the royal family in 2018.
According to Jobson's biography, William advised 39-year-old Harry to "cool the relationship" , allowing Meghan time to adjust to royal life. Their publicized engagement in November 2017 came just one year after they began courting.
"Harry felt embarrassed by William's counsel, which strained their relationship further," Jobson said. He said that based on Harry's memoir ‘Spare’, the conflict grew to a physical fight between the brothers.
The book also argues that Meghan started her relationship with William and Kate poorly by not following royal etiquette. Meghan allegedly left Kate "taken aback" when she borrowed her lip gloss one time.
The link between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales is practically non-existent now. After Harry and Meghan resigned as working royals in 2020 and gave numerous revealing interviews, including a 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview where they expressed concerns inside the royal family about the skin tone of their baby, the divide grew more pronounced.
Jobson also claimed in his book ‘Endgame’ that Omid Scobie's book revealed King Charles and the Princess of Wales as the royals who made those remarks in December 2022.
