The move, as detailed in royal expert Omid Scobie's book "Endgame," was deemed by insiders as the "final blow" for the Sussexes, despite Charles likely not intending it as a direct slight towards Harry. Scobie stressed that it was undoubtedly interpreted that way. The author highlighted Charles' consistent soft spot for his embattled brother, Andrew, who declined the offer repeatedly.

An insider shared with the Sun earlier this year that Andrew resisted relocating to Frogmore Cottage despite the offer, underscoring Harry and Meghan's powerlessness in preventing their eviction. Prince Andrew, embroiled in controversy since his disastrous 2019 BBC interview about his association with Jeffrey Epstein, remains at the Royal Lodge after losing his "His Royal Highness" title.

The royal family made public statements regarding Andrew's royal duties, emphasizing his stance as a private citizen. Charles and Prince William reportedly aimed to distance him from royal affairs.

After the Sussexes stepped back from senior royal roles and moved to California in 2020, they vacated Frogmore Cottage in March 2023, complying with Charles' request made earlier. Per Scobie's book, Harry asked his father about their future visits, to which Charles vaguely assured them of "somewhere" to stay.

Moreover, both Harry and Andrew drew attention for differing instructions regarding their military medals' attire at royal events, especially Harry's exclusion of military uniform at certain gatherings despite his military service.
