American President Donald Trump has celebrated Diwali at the White House along with Indians residing in U.S.

The celebrations were held at Trump’s Oval Office in which his daughter Ivanka Trump, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, Centres for Medicine & Medicaid Services administrator Seema Verma and many other persons of repute took part in the celebrations.

It may be recalled that it was George Bush who first kick-started the process of celebration of Diwali at the ‘White House’. Obama, who succeeded Bush, was very keen to make the celebrations look grand. Obama’s successor Trump, who appears to be the first-ever U.S. President to endorse the BJP’s ‘Hindutva’ policies, didn’t forget to refer to the Diwali as the ‘festival of the Hindus’ during the celebrations.

After lighting the ceremonial traditional lamp, Trump said “I feel very happy to be with the Indian community here to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights. In fact, I feel proud.  It’s time for us to remember Indians, who have been preserving the world’s oldest democracy intact. I also wish to record here that my relationship with Indian Premier Narendra Modi has been very strong!”
