Staff members including employees and workers of the State-run Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) would be striking work from today pressing for revision of their salaries and wages.

The striking workers’ Union said that the Govt. didn’t bother to involve trade unions while making an announcement about provision for interim relief.  Subramanian, president of the Federation of Associations of EB employees, said that as many as 40,000 employees and workers affiliated to 10 recognized trade unions would take part in the strike which he described would be a ‘total’ one.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Electricity, Prohibition & Excise Minister P. Thangamani exuded confidence that the strike by TNEB’s employees and workers may not affect the routine lives of people in any manner. “Talks are continuing with trade unions and we hope that the talks would conclude amicable by early next week,” he said and added that the Govt. had taken enough precautionary measures to ensure there would be no disruption in power supply.

“The employees and workers won’t be paid their salaries/wages for the days when they would be striking work,” the Minister clarified. He also warned the striking workers and employees to ensure that their strike doesn’t hamper people’s routine lives. “If they disrupt people, they (the employees and workers) would face severe action,” the Minister stated categorically.
