Today is the birthday of actor, singer and music director Premji Amaren.

Premji the younger son of veteran music director, lyricist and director Gangai Amaren entered Kollywood as a singer and also assisted his cousin and music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Premji ventured into acting playing a small supporting character in Silamabarasan's debut directorial 'Vallavan' however it was 'Chennai 600028' the cult film on Chennai gully cricker gave him a strong hold as an actor. Interestingly this was the directorial debut of Premji's elder brother Venkat Prabhu.

Since then Premji has been a regular cast member of Venkat Prabhu films and he acted as one of the leads in 'Goa'. His performance in that film as well as Thala Ajith's starrer 'Mankatha' and Suriya's 'Massu Engira Masilamani' are much appreciated by critics.

He has given notable performances as a comedy/supporting actor in the films of other directors also. The list includes. 'Sathyam', 'Santhosh Subramanian', 'Settai and 'Vada Curry'. Premji also emerged as a hero in 'Maanga' that released last year In that film he had played a bhagavathar character set in the pre-Independence era with finesse.

Premji has composed music for films like 'Thozha', 'Adhey Neram Adhey Idam' and the 2014 super hit 'Ennamo Nadakkudhu'. He has also been continuing as a successful playback singer.
