Subashri a 23-year-old techie died tragically on September 11th when a wedding banner of an AIADMK functionary's son placed at the centre median at 200 feet road in Pallikaranai fell over her and a water tank lorry ran over her. The incident sparked off widespread agitations against the banner culture forcing the Tamil Nadu government to ban it.

Premalatha Vijayakanth in her latest speech has stated that Subashri's death is the work of fate and opposition leaders are unduly placing the blame on the ruling ADMK party. She further stated that her party has accepted the ban on banners. She also condemned the DMK alleging that memes of Vijayakanth are being circulated by its cadres.
