Vijayakanth, the Founder and General Secretary of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), actively participated in the party’s executive and general council meeting on December 14 at the GPN Palace marriage hall in Thiruverkadu at 8:45 am.

Given Vijayakanth's recent hospitalization and subsequent recovery, the party deemed it fitting to convene the meeting. Treasurer Premalatha Vijayakanth, following deliberations on the party's future plans, took the podium to address the assembly during the event.

The primary agenda of the meeting was to formulate a strategic plan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Campaign secretaries, along with all key leaders and functionaries, were explicitly directed to attend the meeting, emphasizing its significance. A crucial resolution was passed, granting Vijayakanth the authority to make decisions regarding alliances in the parliamentary elections.

In another notable development, the general committee and executive committee meeting of DMDK took place in Tiruvekkad, Chennai. DMDK leader Vijayakanth actively participated, drawing enthusiastic responses from the volunteers present.

During this meeting, the resolution empowering Vijayakanth to decide on parliamentary election alliances was reaffirmed. Subsequently, a unanimous decision led to the election of Premalatha Vijayakanth as the General Secretary of DMDK. The announcement of Premalatha's appointment was met with cheers from the DMDK volunteers. In a poignant moment, Premalatha humbly sought blessings by touching Vijayakanth's feet upon her appointment as General Secretary. In reciprocation, she was blessed by Vijayakanth, who will continue in the role of the founding president of DMDK. This significant event marked a momentous chapter in the party's leadership transition.

It is known that Vijayakanth was admitted in the MIOT Hospital and during that time, fans and his supporters experienced tense moments. They experienced scares and also sleepless nights as rumours about his death spread like wildfire. It was left for his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth to rubbish all the rumours and instill confidence among all his fans and party cadre.
