The recent cricket entertainer "Lubber Pandhu" created waves in Tamil cinema with its resounding success. Actor Attakathi Dinesh portrays "Gethu," a talented cricketer and fan of Captain Vijayakanth. Not only that, but the film also features pop-culture references from Vijayakanth’s films including songs and posters.
Notably, the theatre erupts with excitement every time the Captain's iconic opening song "Nee Pottu Vacha" from the 1989 blockbuster "Ponmana Selvan" is used in the movie. The film's director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu stated that he is a big fan of Vijayakanth and "Lubber Pandhu" is a tribute to him.
Captain's wife, Premalatha Vijayakanth, was asked about the usage of the Vijayakanth songs in films. She responded, “The impact of the Captain in the film was significant. The song has been used effectively in this movie, and it brings additional joy that the song is being celebrated through this film. The song is now going viral everywhere.”
"In the upcoming IPL season, they will likely play 'Nee Pottu Vacha' song for MS Dhoni's entry. Regardless of who uses the Captain's songs and posters in films, we won’t be asking for copyright. Vijayakanth is not our property; he belongs to the people," added Premalatha Vijayakanth.
