Pre-World Cup finals releases are disasters

Though Bollywood is smiling again with F.A.L.T.U. being a success and 'Thank You' expected to open on a good note, the earlier week was inconsequential with each of the three releases - 'Monica', 'Life Goes On' and 'Happy Husbands' - being a disaster. In fact these three films had to struggle to complete even one full week at the box office.
The collections were expectedly negligible and too embarrassing to be reported. In fact it was surprising to see the makers of 'Happy Husbands' calling their film as a success when the fact is that neither were collections any good to boast of nor was a single review talking anything positive about it. In fact if not for anything else, 'Happy Husbands' would be known for it being one of those films where everyone has been unanimous in calling it as one of the worst films ever made.
As for 'Monica' though, one truly believes that if only there was better promotion around it, the film could have succeeded to some extent at the least. It was not bad but somehow it seems that even the makers were not confident about its prospects. The genre and subject further make one believe that the film would struggle to find any takers on home video or satellite channels.
'Life Goes On' only makes one feel that why do makers release such films in theaters when they have precious little to perform outside the festival circuits. In fact a new release 'Memories In March' too suffered on the same grounds. Moreover these are English films with Hindi actors that belong to art-house cinema, something that has near to impossible chance of running in theaters, especially with zero promotion and arrival during cricket season.
