Former president Pranab Mukherjee, who was considered the second most powerful person in the UPA-I government, has reportedly made some sensational remarks in his autobiography 'The Presidential Years'. The late former Congress leader has briefly touched upon the creation of Telangana in his memoir.
Here is what Pranab wrote in the book: "I don’t think I would have allowed the state of Telangana to be created." This goes to show the creation of Telangana was more of a political decision led by Sonia Gandhi. It was P Chidambaram who first announced the creation of Telangana in 2009 in the wake of KCR's 'deeksha'. This came about just months after the demise of YS Rajasekhar Reddy, the most powerful Congress CM of the time.
In the much-written-about memoir, Pranab wrote that the Congress leadership lost its focus after he was made President of India. Pranab was considered one of the brightest political minds of the Congress party. It's rumoured that he was not made Prime Minister because he wouldn't have allowed Sonia Gandhi to boss over the government. That's why Manmohan Singh, a loyalist, was chosen.
