Veteran director and cinema tographer Balu Mahendra's first Tamil film was 'Azhiyatha Kolangal' that had Prathap Pothen and Shoba in lead roles. Now the legendary filmmaker's former associate M.R.Bharathi is making a new film with the same title.

The new film' stars veteran actors Nasser, Prakash Raj, Revathy and Archana in lead roles. This is not the remake and only the title has been borrowed from the film of Balu Mahendra who passed away in 2014.

'Azhiyatha Kolangal' is being produced by Easwari Rao under Charulatha Films banner. Debutante Aravind Siddhartha is scoring music for the film while Rajesh.K.Nair is handling the cinematography. Mu.Kasi Viswanathan takes care of Editing.

It is worth noting that all the three women associated with this project have worked with Balu Mahendra in at least one film. Easwari Rao had acted as one the heroines in Balau Mahendra's super hit comedy flick 'Raman Abdullah'. Revathy has acted in the lead role in the critically acclaimed 'Marupadiyum' while Archana has acted a in 'Neengal Kettavai', 'Veedu' and 'Sandhyaragam'. She had also won the National Award for her performance in 'Veedu'.
