Veteran actor Prakash Raj recently took a subtle jab at Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, urging him to prioritize governance after the Supreme Court reprimanded the Chandrababu Naidu government for politicizing the alleged adulteration of ghee used in the making of Tirupati laddus. Although Prakash Raj did not name anyone directly, his pointed tweet made his message clear.
"Enough is enough. Now will you please focus on what is important to the citizens? #justasking," Prakash Raj tweeted, following ongoing criticisms of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan. The Supreme Court had earlier chastised the Andhra Pradesh government for holding a press conference about the alleged use of substandard ghee in the preparation of the sacred Tirupati laddus, before the investigation was complete. The court commented, "We expect Gods to be kept away from politics."
The controversy began when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu raised concerns about the quality of ghee used in Tirupati laddus, citing a report from a central government lab based on samples submitted by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). However, Justice Gavai questioned the urgency of bringing the issue to the media, asking, "Was the ghee sample, which did not meet standards, actually used in the laddus? What was the urgency of going to the press before concluding the investigation?"
In response to Prakash Raj's remarks, Pawan Kalyan expressed disappointment during an interview with Oneindia. While acknowledging his respect for Prakash Raj as both an actor and a friend, Kalyan felt the actor's comments were unnecessary. "We differ on political aspects, but as an actor, I respect him. However, there was no need for him to comment on this matter," Kalyan said.
Kalyan also critiqued what he termed the "selective outrage" of secularists like Prakash Raj, accusing them of criticizing Hindu society while remaining silent on issues concerning other religions. He questioned why Prakash Raj had not spoken out about violence against Hindus in Bangladesh but chose to comment on Hindu-related controversies. "Secularists like him find it easy to criticize Hindu society but are reluctant to comment on other religions," Kalyan added.
The heated exchange between the two prominent figures highlights the growing tension in Andhra Pradesh politics, as well as the broader debate over religion and politics in India.
