Actor Prabhu Deva made a comeback in Tamil with 'Devi' the trilingual horror-comedy flick directed by Vijay. The film released amid relatively less expectations but has turned out to be one of the sleeper hit of the year thanks to quality content and positive word of mouth.
Interestingly the number of shows and people patronage increasing for the film week after week. In its third week, the film has done a fantastic performance in the box office and has been declared as a 'Hit' by trade pundits.
As far as Chennai box office is concerned the film in its third weekend between October 21 to 23, the film achieved 55% occupancy, which is pretty decent for a film after this many number of days after release. The film was screened for 190 shows across 17 screens in the city.
With the horror-comedy flick has collected Rs.36,91,780. The overall collection made by the film in Chennai stands has gone above Two crores (Rs.2,07,12,340 in the period between Oct 7 to 23).
It is worth noting that 'Devi' is the debut production venture of Prabhu Deva who is already a successful actor, dance choreographer and director. Tamannah has played the titular character in the film and this is her second hit of the year after 'Dharmadurai'. For Vijay, it is grand comeback and a much needed hit in his career as a director.
