The first part of the saga is coming to cinemas on May 9th, 2024.
Vyjayanthi Movies are bankrolling this massive-scale dystopian sci-fi set in the backdrop of Indian mythology at a whopping sum of Rs 600 crores. Prabhas's titular role is said to be based on Kalki, the tenth and last avatar of Lord Vishnu according to Hindu mythology. Adding fuel to this buzz, creator Nag Ashwin confirmed in a recent interview that this film unravels the events that span over 6000 years.
When asked about the mystery behind the film's title, Nag Ashwin said, Our film starts in Mahabharat and it ends in the year 2898. So, it spans the 6000 year distance in time. We are trying to create a new world, still keeping it Indian and not making it look like 'Blade Runner'. 6000 years behind 2898 AD was 3102 BC, which is when the last avatar of Lord Vishnu, Krishna, passed away. The movie has a distinct Indian character.
While Prabhas plays the titular role, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan is said to play a powerful villain role. As per sources, the makers are now filming the final schedule of 'Kalki 2898AD'. The film has Santhosh Narayanan as the music composer, Djordje Stojiljkovic as the cinematographer, Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao as the editor and Nitin Zihani Choudhary as the art director.
