In September 2017, Shyamala Rani, a novelist, alleged in a police complaint that the 2011 film 'Mr. Perfect', directed by Dasaradh, is based on her novel 'Naa Manasu Ninnu Kore'. The story bears resemblance to her novel, her complaint noted. Following her complaint, the police filed a case against producer Dil Raju under the Copyright Act.
The latest development on this front is that a City Civil Court in Hyderabad has reportedly found that 'Mr. Perfect' indeed has got vast similarities with the novel. It has to be seen what defence Dil Raju's production house is going to come up with.
As per the novelist, she was not interested in pursuing the case in a court. However, she had to "do it because there was no answer to her objections from the makers of 'Mr. Perfect'."
As for Dasaradh, this is what he had said in 2017: "Shyamala Rani's novel was published in August 2010. However, I had registered the story in February 2009 itself as 'Navvuthoo' with the Cine Writers' Association. I am herewith attaching the Association's certification. In 2008 when Prabhas was shooting for 'Billa' in Malaysia, I and Dil Raju garu went to Malaysia to narrate the story of 'Mr. Perfect'. There is no truth in the allegation that 'Mr. Perfect' is a copied story. My story predates her novel."
