After the arrival of the first set of results from early-stage clinical trials of the Oxford University Coronavirus vaccine candidate, it has been announced that the vaccine induces an immune reaction, and has shown positive results, as published in Lancet medical journal.
The results from Oxford lead to Indian vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute declaring that they will be requesting regulatory approvals for clinical trials in India and will begin manufacturing the vaccine in large volumes. If the Oxford vaccine is successful, Serum Institute in association with British pharma company AstraZeneca will manufacture billion doses of the vaccine.
Serum Institute Chief executive Adar Poonawalla has said that the trials have shown positive result and that the company will apply for the licensure trials in a week’s time. Oxford vaccine test results show that it works against the the covid virus Sars-CoV-2, and produces a strong antibody and T cell responses, with minimal side effects.
