Fan wars not new to social media users Especially fans of Thala Ajith and Thalapathy Vijay fight it out as if they are representing two nations. But many times even individuals who belong to the general audience category also become soft targets of the true blood fans of the stars. The latest target who is being abused to the core is noted journalist Dhanya Rajendran.
Just a tweet of Dhanya comparing the latest Hindi film she watched with Vijay's 'Suraa' was enough to pounce on her. She had just tweeted that she walked out of the latest Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' even before interval while she could manage to watch Vijay's 'Suraa' at least till interval. For this a large number of Vijay fans have been hurling filthiest of abuses on her over the past three days. Some of them have unearthed her years old Twitter posts trolling Vijay and his films and have been making targeted attack on her. They even trended her name with a abusive adjective.
What is more shocking than this barrage of abuse is that there are people with "neutral' tags who defend such abusers. They say that while abusing Dhanya is condemnable it is also wrong on her part to criticise an actor celebrated by many people like their family member. If this argument sounds right to you, please consider that you are supporting the wrong thinking that it is the right.
Vijay, Ajith and all other film stars are common to all people. All of us go and watch their films by spending our money and time. Everyone of us have the right to have our own opinion about the stars and their films and also express the opinion. Whatever Dhanya had spoken about Vijay-even in the ones dutifully unearthed by her abusers-are criticisms about the actor Vijay. She has not spoken any word against the person Vijay or anything about his personal life. If we find someone's criticisms about an actor problematic, we can either point out our difference of opinion in a decent language or just ignore their posts and if needed there are also options to block the person's post coming to our notice.
Whatever be the provocation. it is completely unacceptable to use filthy language and hurl abuses dragging the personal life of a person. Sadly it is women who are often targeted like this in the most inhuman way. If it is a woman who is being targeted, many men join in groups to hurl abuses about her looks and character and try to cripple the woman's voice.
Thankfully this attempt has not succeeded in Dhanya's case. She has been boldly taking on her abusers and she has also lodged a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Police who have assured speedy action in this matter.
All of us no very well that Ajith fans are no different as far as Social media is concerned. A few years ago, popular singer and Voice actor Chinmayi was targeted in a similar fashion by Ajith fans for her tweets that they interpreted as insulting their Thala. Chinmayi like Dhanya was also bold enough to take on her abusers and never cowed down to the filthy abuses and mudslinging against her.
If this happens to celebrities think about normal individuals that too women. Many would not have the will power and guts to continue in the social media in the face of such targeted abuse by a large number of fans.
It is high time that Ajith and Vijay take notice of this serious menace and take some concrete steps to stop this online bullying committed by people claiming to be their fans. The hard earned reputation over years of hard work and perseverance of the two much admired stars is at stake and they have to act at least to save that.
Disclaimer: With the terms 'Vijay fans" and 'Ajith fans' we don't mean to say that all the fans of these two actors are indulging in such unacceptable activities. We know very well that there are many decent fans of Vijay and Ajith who are themselves pained by such things happening in the name of their favourite star.
