State Award-winning Malayalam Filmmaker Vidhu Vincent, who was one of the founding members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), has quit the organization due to personal and political differences. In a Facebook post, Vidhu Vincent revealed her decision.
In the post, Vidhu wrote, “I extend my support to all agreeable efforts of WCC to help women make movies, create a women-friendly atmosphere in the world of cinema and outside of it. I also hope the organisation strengthens itself further through self-criticism in the journey forward. As someone who has informed the media often about WCC’s stands on various matters, I hope the media would take this as an announcement.”
WCC was formed in May 2017, after the actress abduction case, that sent shockwaves across the industries. WCC's aim is to bring together women in the Malayalam film industry and empower them and also give special attention to their struggles. Last year, leading actress Manju Warrier too had quit the association as she had some differences with the stances of a few members of the group.
