Superstar Rajnikanth who had last appeared in the Superhit movie Petta directed by Karthik Subbaraj and released this Pongal is currently working on his 167th movie Darbar directed by AR Murugadoss. The movie is produced by Lyca Productions and is progressing briskly.

Darbar will present Superstar Rajnikanth as a police officer after Pandian released in 1993, and also will star Lady Superstar Nayanthara, Nivetha Thomas, Yogi Babu, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar. Darbar is planned as Pongal 2020 release and has music by Anirudh.

Cinematographer Santosh Sivan, who is working with Rajnikanth 28 years after Thalapathi in Darbar, has now tweeted praising the Superstar. His tweet read "Rajini Sir has that awesome radiance and love that touches everyone equally ..its amazing and humbling how well he treats and respects all with patience and without discriminations"
