The seventy percent polling that was registered in Tamil Nadu on April 19th Lok Sabha Elections signaled the eagerness of voters especially youngsters who want change.  However, on the other side mob violence in Ponparappi, Ariyalur tells the sad tale that the caste divide between people is as fierce as it ever was.

Violence erupted between the higher class and the lower in Ponparappu in Ariyalur district on Thursday which resulted in the dominant mob pelting stones and breaking the thatched huts and fragile housing structures of the underprivileged.  In the video that has found its way into the internet, one can clearly hear the leaders of the mob addressing their targets in demeaning words calling implying their low caste and also encouraging the violators to indulge in more violence in spite of ladies and children screaming with fear.
