Mani Rathnam's Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan is said to be a potential game-changer for the Tamil film industry. The two-part franchise has apparently been shot on a budget of Rs 500 crore, making it one of Lyca's biggest projects to date.
As the audiences are eagerly waiting for the film, now we hear that 'Ponniyin Selvan' digital rights have been sold for a whopping price. Reports suggest that both the parts of 'Ponniyin Selvan' have been sold on a whole to a popular OTT platform for an amount of Rs 125 crores. The satellite rights too of the film have also been sold for a huge amount, and the grand audio and trailer launch has been planned to be aired a week before the film's release.
Ponniyin Selvan is produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under the Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions banners, respectively. Ponniyin Selvan is set to become the first Tamil movie to release in IMAX when it hits the screens on September 30.
'Ponniyin Selvan' is based on the novel of the same title that explains the history of Cholas. The film has an ensemble cast headlined by Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, and Prakash Raj, among others.
