First 3 days collection of Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' is mind blowing - Details

The first part of Mani Ratnam's dream project 'Ponniyin Selvan' based on Kalki's five part novel of the same name released worldwide on September 30th.  The film has received unanimous praise from critics and audiences alike and took a gigantic opening at the box office.

Now it is reported through reliable sources that 'PS-1' has so far collected close to rupees 220 Crores in just its opening three days alone.  Both parts of the epic film were made at a budget of rupees five hundred crores.   Industry pundits predict that it will be recovered totally by the end of the theatrical run of the first part and its other exploitations such as sattelite and OTT rights. 

The rough breakup of the collections are Tamil Nadu between 77.35 - 78.35 Cr., All India 121.5 - 123.5 Cr., Overseas  87.5 - 92.5 Cr., Total worldwide 209 -216 Cr.  The film has give a big boost to the Tamil film industry and to filmmakers who are working on historicals.  Lyca Productions, Madras Talkies and all other stakeholders around the globe are said to be super happy with the tremendous response audiences are giving the magnum opus.

'Ponniyin Selvan' has music by A.R. Rahman, cinematography by Ravi Varman, Production Design by Thotta Tharani and editing by A. Sreekhar Prasad.  The principal cast comprises of Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Jayaram, Sarathkumar and R. Parthiban.
