'Ponniyin Selvan-I' is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Tamil novel on the life of Raja Raja Chozhan, but for all we know from the trailer of the film, director Mani Ratnam is going to leave his imprint and make it look like something that is beyond a magnum opus. With the screenplay written by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan and Kumaravel, the film's trailer is out.
Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Karthi (he looks restrained) as Vanthiyathevan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (her entry is given a superb elevation) as Nandini, Trisha (her career's most majestic outing is here) as Kundhavai, and Jayam Ravi (he looks definitely a larger than the sum of his previous roles) as Arulmozhi Varman are going to steal the show.
Ravi Varman's cinematography was highlighted by the makers at the trailer launch event in Chennai. AR Rahman's music and Sreekar Prasad's editing are expected to amplify the pan-India bona fides of the film. Thotta Tharani's production design, Eka Lakhani's costumes, and Brinda's dance choreography are said to be outstanding.
The film also features Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Parthiban, Rahman, Lal, and others.
Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions is expecting to score a big hit this season! The film releases on Sept 30.
