Director Maniratnam who had last directed Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, is next directing another multistarrer movie Ponniyin Selvan, which is based on the novel Ponniyin Selvan written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy, and the movie is produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.

Ponniyin Selvan began shooting in Thailand with Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Jayaram joining the shoot, and recently had filmed a small schedule in Pondicherry. Next the team is moving to Hyderabad where a major portion is expected to be filmed.

Actor Riaz Khan who is playing an important role in the movie, has updated that he has arrived at Hyderabad for joining the shoot, and this schedule will happen in Ramoji Film City, where grand sets have been designed. Ponniyin Selvan also stars Vikram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Vikram Prabhu and Prabhu.
