A court summons was issued to Mani Ratnam and Chiyaan Vikram for allegedly misinterpreting the Cholas in Ponniyin Selvan. The attorney wanted a special screening to check for any historical factual distortions in the movie.
Team Ponniyin Selvan released a teaser of this film featuring the power struggle of the Chola empire during the 10th century and also showed a glimpse of a few main characters like Vikram, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai.
Days after the release of the teaser, the film landed in trouble. Mani Ratnam and Chiyaan Vikram received a court notice from a lawyer named Selvam. In his petition, he pointed out that Aditya Karikalan (played by Vikram) doesn't have a tilak on his forehead. But, the poster of Vikram from Ponniyin Selvan shows a tilak. Selvam feels that the Cholas could be misrepresented in the film. Hence, he demanded a special screening of the film ahead of its release to analyse if the makers had distorted historical facts in the film.
'Ponniyin Selvan' features Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Jayaram in main roles, and the film's music is scored by AR Rahman. The epic historical drama is slated to release in theatres in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages on September 30th. It is a cinematic adaptation of Kalki’s evergreen Tamil novel that was serialised in the 1950s.
