The grand audio and trailer launch of Mani Ratnam's dream project 'Ponniyin Selvan' based on Kalki's epic novel of the same name, successfully happened on September 6th with Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan as the chief guests.
As usual fans gave thunderous response to Rajini right from his entry to his speech to his exit. The thespian revealed that he is a big fan of the novel and had always wanted to star in a movie adaptation. When Mani Ratnam announced the project the legend had called him and offerred to play the role of Periya Pazhuvettarayar. Rajini jokingly said that Mani Ratnam denied his offer asking him "Do you want your fans to bash me"?
The Rajini and Mani Ratnam combo gave one of Tamil cinema's treasured cult classics 'Thalapathy' also starring Mammootty. The film was based on the Mahabharatha with focus on the friendship of Karna and Duryodhana.
In 'PS-1' Sarathkumar plays the role of Periya Pazhuvettarayar while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is portraying Nandhini his much younger wife. The film has music by A.R. Rahman and the ensemble dream cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and R Parthiban. The film is releasing worldwide in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi on September 30th including in IMAX screens.
