The long wait for the trailer of 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' is finally over and the master filmmaker Mani Ratnam has surpassed all expectations in enticing fans into making the film a definite watch. The 3 minutes 34 seconds cut wastes no time in blowing up the conflicts that were thrown open in the climax of the first part.
There is great unrest in the Chola kingdom as the much loved prince Arulmozhi Varman aka 'Ponniyin Selvan' is believed to be dead. On one hand his hot headed brother Aditha Karikalan (Chiyaan Vikram) is thirsty for revenge acting in a reckless manner. On the other hand the wily Nandhini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is plotting the end of her childhood sweetheart Karikalan by luring him to her.
In between the main plot the mystery of who Oomai Rani (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in dual roles) also takes center stage with Kundavai (Trisha) bringing it up to her dad Sundar Chozhan ( Prakash Raj). Unbeknown to all these other main characters the swashbuckling heroes Vandhiyathevan (Karthi) and 'Ponniyin Selvan' (Jayam Ravi) are alive and well and are on their own adventures. With so much and many more subplots triggerred in 'PS-2' there cannot be a dull moment.
Mani Ratnam with his worldclass direction aided by the exemplary cinematography of Ravi Varman and goose bump raising background score of A.R. Rahman has once again sold us a winner. Veteran editor Sreekhar Prasad has masterfully cut the 'Ponniyin Selvan' trailer to international standards by giving the audiences just a hint of what is to come from the multiple plots of the screenplay. His masterstroke is ending the clip with the electrifying face to face meeting of the lovers turned enemies.
