Last year, just two films namely Thalapathy Vijay's 'Bhairava' and Parthiepan's 'Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga' released on Pongal. Contrastinly, about 9 films are set to hit the screens this year as a Pongal treat to fans. 

The expected films this Pongal are 'Thaana Serndha Koottam', 'Gualebhagavali', 'Kalakalappu 2' , 'Madura Veeran', 'Mannar Vagera', 'Nimir', 'Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren', 'Sketch'. However, some films have opted out of the Pongal race due to issues and complictaions in availing the desired number of theatres and screenings. 

While 'Thaana Serndha Koottam', 'Bhaskar Oru Rascal' and 'Madura Veeran' releases seems to be confirmed, Vikram's 'Sketch' release will be confirmed after it passes the censor examination. 

Moreover, as Vishal's 'Irumbu Thirai' and Jayam Ravi's 'Tik Tik Tik' are set for a release in January 26, films missing the Pongal race could be expected to hit the sceens around Republic day.
