Veterran politician Vaiko turns producer as he announced yesterday that he will bankroll a film on Rani Velu Nachiyar of Sivagangai, who is known for her valour and her fight aginst the British rule in India.

Vaiko announced his new production venture under the name of ‘Kannagi Films’ after staging the play of Rani Velu Nachiar yesterday in the city. The politician also said that he is interested in being the producer of the film because people hardly know about the life of Velu Nachiar who was the first Indian woman to take it up against the British before Jhansi Rani and it was high time that something done about it.

Sriram Sharma would be the directing the film which is currently in its preproduction stage. The teamm is currently in discussion regarding who will play the lead role of Rani Velu Nachiyar in the film and the casting details of the movie is expected to be announced shortly.
