Political scenario in Tamil Nadu, which is already volatile, is to get heated up more in the coming weeks as two major events are to unfold in the succeeding week.
A special CBI Court in New Delhi headed by Justice O.P. Saini is to announce on 25th October (next Wednesday) the date of verdict in the much-awaited 2-G scam which rocked the nation a few years back. Trial in the scam, which had been going on for the past many years, has reached its concluding stage with Justice Saini reserving his wisdom of pronouncing the date of verdict.
The verdict, whose date would be announced next week, might have far-reaching consequences on the political future of DMK’s high-profile Rajya Sabha M.P. Kanimozhi and former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja. In fact, the verdict in the case might send a strong message across to the whole country that corruption in high places would never go unnoticed.
Likewise, the one-man Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice Arumuga Swamy, set up by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to look into the circumstances leading ultimately to the mysterious demise of former chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa on 05th December last year, is to formally commence its work on 25th September in its attempt to unearth the mystery behind the ‘passing away’ of the most powerful woman in the State’s politics.
The Commission has been allotted an office at ‘Ezhilagam’ in Chepauk. Political observers were quick to point out that not much can be expected out of the inquiry as the scope of the Commission wasn’t sky-high.
