On Wednesday, news emerged that comedienne Hema lodged a complaint with the Madhapur police accusing senior actor Naresh and character artist Karate Kalyani of resorting to her character assassination. Kalyani has previously appeared on Bigg Boss Telugu. Hema also alleged that a few YouTube channels have put out objectionable videos morphing her image in a derogatory manner.

The news is that the police have now sought legal opinion on the matter. It's because the complaint suggests that Naresh and Kalyani have defamed Hema's image. As such, they have to proceed against them only if appropriate legal advice says that Hema has been defamed.

Hema has previously had a public spat with Naresh. At a MAA meeting in early 2020, which was aired on TV channels, Naresh snatched the mic as Hema started to speak. This angered Hema, who said that the behaviour is highly objectionable.

Ahead of the MAA elections, the Association has been sharply divided. Naresh has faced the greatest amount of criticism from his rivals, especially Hema, Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Prakash Raj. Naresh is backing the Manchu Vishnu panel.

The elections are due to be held on October 10.
