Police impose 144 Section in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Police Department has issued a strict prohibition on public gatherings in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, citing the need to maintain public peace and safety. This measure, enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 (formerly Section 144 of the CrPC) by Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand, aims to prevent potential disruptions to public order.

Here's a breakdown of the order:

Purpose of the Prohibition:

The Hyderabad Police Department has expressed concerns about the potential for disturbances caused by protests and gatherings organized by various groups.

These events could pose a challenge to law enforcement in maintaining public safety and peace.

Restrictions:

The order prohibits gatherings, processions, rallies, and protests involving five or more individuals.

Displaying symbols, flags, placards, or electronic messages that could incite public disorder is also prohibited.

Designated Area for Peaceful Protests:

While public gatherings are restricted, individuals seeking to engage in peaceful demonstrations can do so only at Indira Park Dharna Chowk, the designated area for assemblies.

Any unauthorized gatherings at other locations within the city limits are strictly forbidden.

Exemptions:

The following groups are exempt from the restrictions:

On-duty Police Officers, including Home Guards and Special Police Officers (SPOs)

Military personnel performing official duties

Authorized funeral processions

Flying Squad of the Education Department

Any other groups or individuals granted exemption by a competent authority

Penalties for Violation:

Individuals or groups violating these restrictions, particularly around sensitive areas like the Secretariat, will be prosecuted.

The Hyderabad Police has emphasized its commitment to enforcing these measures to prevent any breaches of public peace and security.

Effective Duration:

The order will remain in effect from 6:00 PM on October 27, 2024, until 6:00 PM on November 28, 2024.

The Hyderabad Police will closely monitor any activity that could lead to public disturbance and take swift action to uphold the restrictions.

Public Notification and Outreach:

The Hyderabad Police Department has issued a formal communication to the Commissioner of Information and Public Relations, requesting the dissemination of this notification through all major newspapers.

Copies have also been forwarded to key officials within the Telangana government, law enforcement agencies, and public broadcasting services for wider dissemination.

The Hyderabad Police Department's prohibition on public gatherings underscores its commitment to maintaining public order and security. The public is advised to adhere to these guidelines, avoid unauthorized gatherings, and remain informed about the designated zones for peaceful protest.
