Yesterday, the Villupuram police found the COVID-19 patient who was discharged from a government hospital by mistake before a week. This person was a migrant from Delhi and was found in Padalam near Maduranthagam. The person was taken to Villupuram and four persons who had contacted him were admitted in Chengalpattu government medical College.
The 30-year-old man had come to Puducherry for an interview and two cases had been registered against him and he was remanded in central prison. The person who was released on March 16 went to Villupuram on March 21 and was planning to go back to Delhi but was stranded in Villupuram due to the nationwide lockdown.
Villupuram police noticed him having symptoms of COVID-19 and he was taken Government Hospital. While his first test was inconclusive, the second test result was pending, but he was mistakenly discharged with 25 others on April 7. Later it was found that 4 of the 26 discharged tested positive. Police found other three discharged people while this man escaped. As police forces were searching him, yesterday, Bhoothapandi, a 43-year-old lorry driver from Singampatti near Ambasamuthiram informed Villupuram district police that he saw the missing man, and police rushed to the location to get the missing person. Later, Villupuram SP rewarded lorry driver Bhoothapandi with a cash reward of Rs 1,000.
