Wearing face masks in public places has been mandatory in Telangana. The government took this decision after ample scientific evidence suggested that wearing masks is as important as social distancing. Despite the rule in place, many on the roads of Hyderabad have been found to be violating the norm. The Hyderabad Traffic police are believed to be keeping track of vehicle users who are caught without a mask.

CCTV surveillance has been deployed for the purpose. The traffic department is keeping an eye on those two-wheeler users who are negligent. A video clip in which the department is seen using technology to zero in on violators is making the rounds on the Internet. As per the rules, violators have to pay Rs 1000 as fine for not wearing a mask. A recent Times Of India report said that implementing this rule has been hard because most of the violators have been unable to cough up that much money.

Technology has also been used for other purposes, like slapping fines on those vehicles which don't have a mirror. Due to the risk of Covid-19, the traffic department is generating challans online by catching offenders using technological interventions.
