Poi
Even after hitting a century (100 films), veteran director K Balachander is still oozing energy and fresh ideas. Thanks to his protege Prajkash Raj, KB is all set to come out with his 101st directorial venture Poi.
Poi, which is set for a release this weekend features up-and-coming Telugu star Uday Kiran in the lead role. Pitted opposite him is the Miss-India Australia winner Vimala. Once a child artiste, Geethu Mohandas has an important role to essay. Balachander plays an important role in the movie.
Talking about the movie, Balachander says, ' It would be a youthful entertainer sure to attract people of the present generation.'
'He vouches that it would be typical in his style but will be trendy and sure to appeal to youth. It will be packaged to a nicety and meet the expectations of the MTV generation,' he said.
On working with Balachander, the newcomer Vimala says, 'I could not have asked for more. As by the title, it's a love story with false lines attached to it as the strings.' Cinematographer P G Viswanath makes his debut in Tamil along with lyricist Dr Kridaya.
After the likes of Andhapuram, Daya, Naam, Azhagiye Theeyae and Kanda Naal Mudhal, Prakash Raj is producing Poi.
'The subject is fresh and you will find the magnetic touch of KB in every frame. Coming after a long break, the movie has been looked forward by the industry. It should be a visual treat for the fans and the wait will be worth it,' said Prakash Raj.
The movie has music by Vidyasagar who has deemed it. As an unusual love story with the distinct KB touch culminating in a great climax.
The movie is distributed by Oscar Ravichandran.
Poi promises to provide quality entertainment in these times of masala pot-boilers.
Prakash Raj as a producer surely deserves plaudits for open-heartedly backing new and innovative ventures. It would have been only easy for him to go in for masala movies. But he is ready to take the hard route for the sake of quality cinema.
For that alone, Poi needs to be a dream come true.
