Simbu throughout his career has balanced his mass entertainers with romantic films namely 'Kovil', 'Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya', 'Poda Podi' and 'Idhu Namma Aalu'. Especially the 2012 film 'Poda Podi' that marked the debut of Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and director Vignesh Shivan was an out and out romantic comedy that explored the man woman relationship in the most entertaining manner.

Padam Kumar the producer of 'Poda Podi' has confirmed that he has signed Simbu as the hero for the sequel 'Poda Podi 2' with Rithika Paul as the heroine. He has further stated that he wants to retain the original crew to the maximum and is in talks with Dharan Kumar for the music.

Padam Kumar has impressed with his acting in the Netflix anthology movie 'Paava Kathaigal' in the episode directed by Vignesh Shivan. Though he is in a very good relationship with Vicky he hasn't disclosed who the director of 'Poda Podi 2' is likely to be.

Padam Kumar has planned to shoot 'Poda Podi 2' in May or June 2021 as the new script is set in a foreign country and is waiting for the COVID 19 situation to ease out. He has also added that the film will not be a direct sequel but will have a few elements of the original but will be a fresh take on the romance between the two leads.
